DStv is rolling out a new sports package priced at R399. Does this mean rugby fans will finally be able to watch the Springboks in action, without paying a small fortune to access SuperSport channels?

DSTV’S NEW SPORTS PACKAGE – DOES IT INCLUDE SUPERSPORT CHANNELS?

According to leaked information published this week, DStv is preparing a major overhaul of its packages, with the new lineup expected to launch as soon as 17 September 2026. 

Packages will now be grouped into more “affordable” categories based on public demand, with the introduction of a R399 sports package being the biggest drawcard.

The data revealed that the package will include the following sporting attractions

  • Premier League
  • UEFA competitions
  • PSL
  • T20 cricket, including SA20 and IPL
  • Currie Cup, URC
  • UFC
  • WWE

However, the sport packages do not include SuperSport channels, which broadcast Springbok and Proteas fixtures, Formula One, MotoGP, tennis and golf.

These channels remain on the Premium package, which will reportedly be priced from R799.

That DSTV sports package is practically useless because wdym I won't be able to watch the Springboks and Formula 1?😂😂😂😂

OTHER WAYS TO WATCH THE SPRINGBOKS

Apart from DStv, here are other ways to watch the Springboks in action…

The test matches are usually available with live commentary on SABC radio stations such as SAfm and Radio 2000. This is free if you’re listening over FM/AM radio. If you stream the stations online, you’ll only need an internet connection. 

Rugby fans can watch the matches at public viewing venues like pubs, restaurants and dedicated fan parks. These venues often show rugby matches on large TV screens, via the SuperSport Rugby channel, although food, drinks or an entry fee may apply.

Finally, fans will be able to experience the Greatest Rivalry, between South Africa and New Zealand, in person, live in the stadium.  The Boks’ final home match will take place on Saturday, 5 September at the FNB Stadium. Tickets are still available via Ticketmaster.
