Philadelphia fell to 2-1 after Chicago turned three Eagles giveaways into a rout. Tank Bigsby’s fumble and Andy Dalton’s goal-line interception squandered early scoring opportunities, and Jalen Hurts’ fourth-quarter interception ended any comeback chance.
The Eagles’ safety rotation will be a talking point after Case Keenum threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns in Chicago’s 27-7 win Monday night. Marcus Epps missed tackles on the Bears’ opening touchdown drive. Michael Carter II replaced him for part of the next series, though Epps returned and continued to play. Later, Kalif Raymond broke open over the middle for a 41-yard touchdown as Chicago extended its lead to 20-7. Andrew Mukuba and Jihaad Campbell also struggled in coverage.
Philadelphia recently added Kenny Moore II to its practice squad with the possibility of using him at safety or nickel. Monday’s performance gives the coaching staff reason to examine that option during the week. It does not establish that Moore will be ready for an immediate role or that one player can fix the coverage problems.
The Eagles allowed Keenum to complete 24 of 34 passes and did not sack him. Their next decision involves both personnel and how they defend the middle of the field.
