The trailer for Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman‘s highly anticipated biographical drama has been released. Elsinore features Scott as the late actor Ian Charleson. The drama had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on September 4, 2026, and will soon get a theatrical release.
The official synopsis reads, “The deeply emotional and inspirational true story of Ian Charleson, a gifted actor whose greatest challenge becomes his greatest triumph. Facing his own mortality with unflinching honesty, wit, and grace, Charleson delivers a courageous performance that becomes a source of healing and inspiration for those around him.”

What else do we know about the Elsinore movie with Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman?Elsinore is directed by Simon Stone, best known for The Daughter, The Dig, and The Woman in Cabin 10. It is written by Stephen Beresford, based on an idea by Ethan Silverman.
In the movie, Scott stars as Charleson, who delivers a powerful stage performance of Hamlet. According to TIFF‘s description, when Daniel Day-Lewis gave up his role as Hamlet at London’s National Theatre, Charleson found the role of a lifetime. However, he also received his AIDS diagnosis ahead of the stage play.
Yet the late actor stepped onto the stage and delivered 24 commanding, critically acclaimed performances before his death. As Charleson, Scott also portrays Hamlet in the biography, in which the Fleabag actor blends the real and fictional men’s relationship with mortality and death.
Starring alongside Scott is Colman, who plays Margaret Johnson, a doctor treating Charleson and other men during the HIV epidemic. The ensemble also includes Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, David Dawson, Matthew Beard, Joe Locke, Monica Dolan, Georgie Glen, Sadie Soverall, Adeel Akhtar, Dickie Beau, Kadiff Kirwan, Juliet Stevenson, and Peter Mullan.
Scott also served as a producer for the biography alongside Andrea Occhipinti, Gabrielle Tana, Pete Shilaimon, Mickey Liddell, Stefano Massenzi, and Carolyn Marks Blackwood.
Elsinore will be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.
