A job is supposed to be the thing that helps a person pay for all their expenses, but how do you approach it when it is adding to their expenses instead?
The reality is that many employees pay a heavy price for the privilege of having a job. Lunches, commutes, and even conforming to the dress code are all things that many workers have to cover out of their own pocket. Although there are sometimes ways to be sensible and save a little money, it isn't possible with everything. Unless an employer is particularly generous, most paychecks take a hit thanks to various work-related expenses.
A lot of the time, people accept that this is the way that things have to happen. Life is expensive; that is the whole reason that work exists in the first place. However, there can be times when the expense of staying in a job seems to outweigh the benefits of working it. Nobody should be struggling because of the thing that is supposed to stop the struggle.
In particular, the money that gets spent on travelling to the workplace can really add up. Gas prices rose 20% between August and September this year, and the huge swathe of employees who rely on their vehicle to get to work are inevitably going to be feeling the pinch. There is every chance that it is their only way to go to their job, but it is becoming yet another bill that is pricier than it should be.
