The Last Two Cannibals on Cannibal Island is not an allegory for a failing marriage, or anything so high-minded. It is, in fact, about the last two cannibals left on a small, forgotten island on the day they discover each other’s existence, and how they scheme and prevaricate, negotiate a tenuous trust, glimpse better possibilities, and try to find ways to avoid falling prey to their more immediate desires.
The Last Two Cannibals on Cannibal Island. When an unexpected guest shows up with a unique gift, it changes the calculus, but old habits die hard. On a deeper level, the work examines the power of art, the impact of loss, and the weight of tradition, all in a fraught space where hope and fate share close quarters.
The work weaves together live music, tense stand-offs, high-minded speeches, low-minded comedy, deep theological quandaries, unsophisticated weapons, and hungry, half-naked men into an exciting, moving, and immersive 60-minute experience.
