The Fate series began with Type-Moon’s PC game Fate/stay night, released in 2004. Since then, the franchise has expanded beyond games across a wide range of media, including manga adaptations, novelizations, and anime. At the heart of the series is a modern battle fantasy, where legendary heroes from the past, known as Servants, are summoned by Masters to fight for the Holy Grail, an all-powerful artifact said to grant any wish. Together, Masters and Servants enter a deadly conflict where they must battle until only one remains. As of August 2026, the Fate series spans more than 100 titles across games, anime, novels, manga, apps, and other media.

Originally released in Japan in July 2010, Fate/Extra was the series’ first RPG. Fate/Extra Record revisits this pivotal entry in the Fate franchise, completely rebuilding it for modern platforms. Not only has the story been expanded, character graphics have been renewed, and the presentation has been updated for the modern era, but a new strategic deck-building Command Card battle system has been introduced to elevate the gameplay, too. We believe this makes Fate/Extra Record accessible and easy to play for newcomers, while offering a fresh experience for fans of the original game.

The Holy Grail War

After humanity discovered a supercomputer hidden on the moon, everything changed. Known as the Moon Cell Automaton, this powerful computer created the Holy Grail, an omnipotent machine capable of granting any wish. Thus began the Holy Grail War, a tournament taking place in SE.RA.PH, a digital world constructed by the Moon Cell Automaton. It’s there that 128 combatants, or Masters, are pitted against each other in hopes of being the ultimate victor. At each of their sides stands a Servant, a hero drawn from human history, who will help them fight to claim the Holy Grail and fulfill their wish.

At the center of it all is you, a Master with no memory of how you found yourself in the middle of this conflict. Your only chance of survival is to contract a Servant and join this brutal war.

Navigating the War

Gather Information on your enemy: The key to victory is finding out the identity of the enemy Servant. The Servant’s True Name is a crucial piece of information as it will be tied to their combat style and weakness. Gather information and uncover their true identity!

Explore the Arena: To qualify for the Decisive Battle, you must explore sections of the Arena. By overcoming traps and enemies on each floor, your Servant will grow stronger.

The Final Battle: A one-on-one battle between two Servants commanded by their Masters. The losing Master will forfeit not only the tournament, but their life. The Holy Grail War continues until there is only one participant remaining.

Battle System

Fate/Extra Record’s battle system has been completely overhauled from the original game. Now, combat plays out through the use of customizable decks in Command Card Battles. It’s up to you to build your deck with a variety of different Commands, bringing an added layer of strategy to each encounter.

Choosing the Best Actions from Your Hand: There are three kinds of Commands: Attack types that inflict damage on the enemy, Guard types that add to your shield to decrease damage taken, and Skill types that have their own unique abilities. Commands will differ depending on your Servant and thus require different tactics for each combat style.

Your Deck is the Key to Battle: New Commands can be obtained through treasure boxes in the Arena and defeating powerful foes.

Each Servant’s Combat Style:
Players can choose one of three Servants to fight alongside them in the Moon Holy Grail War. Each Servant possesses unique abilities and strengths, so learning how to make the most of their individual talents can give you an edge in battle. Discover what sets each Servant apart and experience their distinct fighting styles for yourself!

Along with standard digital editions on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, we’ll also have a Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the Fate/Extra Record digital edition, numerous cosmetic costumes, an in-game arranged music pack from the original Fate/Extra, and the digital versions of the art book and soundtrack that are included in the physical Limited Edition.

We can’t wait for you all to enjoy Fate/Extra Record, reborn!
