The federal government has inaugurated a new compressed natural gas (CNG) facility in Karu, Abuja, expanding the country’s refuelling network to 106 stations.

The facility, operated by Rolling Energy Limited, was commissioned on Friday as the federal government continues to expand infrastructure for the use of CNG as an alternative to petrol.

According to a statement on Friday, Ismaeel Ahmed, executive chairman of the presidential initiative on compressed natural gas and electric vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV), attended the commissioning alongside government officials and representatives of the company.

“The expansion is part of efforts to improve access to CNG refuelling facilities and encourage more motorists to adopt the alternative fuel,” the statement reads.

The Pi-CNG said it is working with private-sector operators to develop the infrastructure needed to support the growing adoption of CNG-powered vehicles.

The inauguration was also attended by Temitope Peter Fashedemi, permanent secretary, State House; Toyin Subair, senior special assistant to the president on domestic affairs; and Mubarak Danbatta, chief executive officer (CEO) of Rolling Energy Limited.
