Four people have been killed following an attack by suspected bandits on Shurum village in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau state.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama, the counter-insurgency publication, that the attack occurred at about 1:03am on Saturday.
The publication said troops of Sector 4 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), stationed at Dorowa, responded to the incident.
“On arrival, the troops reportedly discovered four residents who had been killed by the assailants, who had fled before the security personnel reached the village,” Makama reported.
“The troops immediately launched offensive operations and a manhunt for the fleeing attackers around Dorowa Babuje and Rapomol communities.
“Security personnel are continuing efforts to track down those responsible for the killings and prevent further attacks in the affected communities.”
Makama said authorities are expected to intensify efforts to identify the perpetrators and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The incident adds to a series of attacks reported in Plateau in recent months.
For decades, violence involving herders and members of local militias in the state has resulted in the loss of several lives, destruction of farmlands and loss of cattle.
In recent months, mining sites have also come under attack.
Last month, TheCable reported that six persons were killed and two others injured after gunmen attacked a mining site in Lajam Marit village, Ropp district of Barkin Ladi.
