Being a cat pawrent is being a full time servant to a majestic meownarch who contributes absolutely to the household. They get meals delivered to them on demand, endless pets, and someone to clean their bathroom every day. Meanwhile they look down upon us from their castle of cardboard.
The demands they make are endless! Heaven forbid you're five minutes late with breakfast or disturb their third afternoon nap. One disapproving stare is enough to send us scrambling to make things right. A Churu oughta fix it, right? We wouldn't accept this behavior from anyone else, but an adorable pair of whiskers and toe beans is enough to have us apologizing for existing.
We place our pets on pedestals ourselves so we really only have ourselves to blame. Those expensive cat trees we buy are essentially monuments to our devotion. Naturally, the cat will ignore the entire structure and sit in the cardboard box it arrived in. Our offerings weren't quite up to royal standards.
We've also developed some pretty questionable habits in the name of feline worship. We'll sit in an uncomfortable position for hours because the cat fell asleep on our lap. We'll sacrifice our favorite chair because they've claimed it. And if they decide to sleep in the middle of our bed, we'll curl ourselves into a tiny corner rather than disturb their beauty rest.
Then there's the way we celebrate every little thing they do. A cat stretches? Adorable! A cat yawns? Get the camera! A cat rolls onto its back and exposes its fluffy belly? We've just witnessed a miracle! Our phones are overflowing with pictures of an animal doing absolutely nothing, and we wouldn't delete a single one.
Perhaps the cats know exactly what they're doing. They've somehow convinced an entire species to purrvide them with food, shelter, entertainment, and affection while asking very little in return. That's a pretty impressive arrangement for an animal that spends most of its day sleeping.
So enjoy these magnificent little feline deities receiving the admiration they clearly believe they deserve. We may technically own the house, but everyone knows who's really in charge.
