The owner of this Ford 8N purchased two Funk-converted Ford 8N tractors and utilized the best components from both to create this single, complete tractor by disassembling, reassembling, and refinishing the vehicle over an eight-year period beginning in 2012. It is powered by a flathead V8 that was installed using a Funk Aircraft conversion kit and is finished in gray and red with a black-painted steel seat. The tractor is also equipped with a four-speed manual transmission, a grille guard, a spring-mounted seat, half fenders, and a rear power take-off. This 8N tractor is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner at no reserve in New York with historical documentation and a bill of sale.
Ford introduced the 8N tractor in 1947, and production continued until the introduction of the NAA and NAB models in 1953. This example is finished in gray over a red chassis and running gear, and exterior details include side steps, rear half-fenders, and dual headlights.
White-finished steel wheels measure 16″ up front and 28″ at the rear and are mounted with Firestone tires. Braking is handled by independent rear drums.
The steel seat is finished in black and is suspended on a flat spring. Controls consist of a hand throttle, a clutch pedal, and twin levers for the independent rear brakes.
The steering wheel sits ahead of a proofmeter, an ammeter, and an oil pressure gauge.
The flathead V8 features 24-bolt cylinder heads stamped 8CM.
The tractor is equipped with a rear PTO shaft.
Historical documentation accompanies the tractor, and the handwritten note above states “Both of these N8s were inspected by Palmer Fossum and yes, they R [sic] real!”
