Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has called on world leaders to intervene in his case to free him from detention.

El-Rufai, in a post on his X handle on Friday, tagged US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron to wade into the matter.

According to the former governor, he is being targeted for speaking truth to power.

"Today, exactly 256 days El-Rufai is in detention. Human rights not a favour, a fair trial is not an act of mercy. It is not a privilege. It is a fundamental human right,” the post stated.

El-Rufai's cry to the international community came after the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed his no-case submission on Monday over alleged phone-tapping of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The former governor, who is also being investigated by the anti-graft agency over alleged N432 billion money laundering following a petition by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has been in detention since February 18, though he was briefly released in March for his mother's funeral.
