For some reason self-help books/genre is quite popular in the United States. But, I do wonder how effective these books really are. Is there anyone here in r/books that genuinely feels they benefitted from reading a self-help book? That, if you actually followed the advice, your life was objectively and measurably improved?

Sure, it is likely someone out there has been helped, but I wonder how frequent that happens, or if these are the kind of books that people buy thinking they will improve their life but almost never read them or don't get past chapter 1, or that are rarely if ever applied.
