Some Nigerians on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter, have continued to taunt Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over his campaign promises for the 2027 elections.
Recently, the former vice-president began disclosing some of the policies he plans to implement or reverse if elected president in 2027.
On August 19, the former vice-president said he will restore petrol subsidy if elected president. Atiku said the government has failed to account for the funds saved from the removal of petrol subsidy.
The proposal elicited varied reactions as members and officials of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), including President Bola Tinubu, criticised the former vice-president.
Atiku had also promised that he would reopen Nigeria’s land borders and develop southern ports to boost trade.
On September 1, the former vice-president said he will reduce the underlying cost of education and provide forgiveness for qualifying student debts.
Taking a swipe at Atiku, some Nigerians on X said the former vice-president might promise to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in Iran, return Nigeria to the era of university lecturers’ strikes, among other sarcastic remarks.
