Hridoy came out at number four and bailed Bangladesh out of trouble in Sylhet. He first added 73 runs with Mushfiqur for the fourth wicket after the hosts went down to 51-3 in response to West Indies’ 356 in the first innings. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter, however, fell in the first session on day three, and Bangladesh collapsed from 124-3 to 184-7.
But even as wickets fell around him, Hridoy kept his cool and brought up up his maiden Test century. He found an able ally in Taijul Islam as the duo constructed a 117-run stand for the eighth wicket, with Hridoy smartly farming the strike to play 111 of the 167 deliveries in the paertnership. He also upped the ante and punished any freebies on offer.
Even after Taijul was dismissed, Hridoy continued with the same approach. Taskin Ahmed stood strong with him to add 85 more runs and take Bangladesh past West Indies' first-innings total. In the process, the 25-year-old converted his first Test ton into a double century and eventually broke Rahim’s record to register the highest Test score for his country with 242* that included 22 fours and 11 sixes.
A brilliant knock from Towhid Hridoy 💯🙌 Walking in at 22-2, Hridoy held the innings together when no other batter crossed 35. His effort single-handedly took Bangladesh past West Indies’ total of 356 and secured a slender 30-run lead 🇧🇩 https://t.co/3VsJ6zQJd7

He eventually ran out of partners after Taskin's dismissal as Shadman Islam wasn't available to bat. But thanks to his marathon knock, Bangladesh took a crucial 30-run lead, which looked unlikely at lunch earlier in the day. West Indies openers Brandon King and Joshua Da Silva then played out tricky four overs without any fuss to end the day at 7-0.
Highest Test score for each country: Towhid Hridoy goes past Mushfiqur RahimMushfiqur had scored an unbeaten 219 against Zimbabwe in Mirpur back in November 2018. Hridoy is only the fourth Bangladesh batter after Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan and the legendary wicketkeeper to notch up a double century in Tests.
