MY STORY
For a long time, I've been balancing long shifts in a demanding job while spending my spare time coding and creating content. As a content creator making short-form videos, I was constantly frustrated by mobile video editing apps.
Every popular editor felt overcrowded with rigid UI borders, slow menus, and forced subscription paywalls just to export basic clips without a massive watermark. I realized most mobile editors were just ported desktop layouts squeezed onto a smartphone screen, rather than being built for fast, one-thumb mobile workflows.
THE IDEA
I decided to build ClipSnap—a native Android video editor focused purely on speed, a modern glassmorphic interface, and modern AI tools.
Instead of hiding core features behind paywalls, my goal was to provide high-performance editing tools directly on mobile:
Sleek UI: Replaced deep vertical scrolling menus with an expandable bottom sheet layout so the video preview never gets blocked.
AI Integration: Built a server-side AI Script-to-Video feature that generates realistic voiceovers and auto-syncs captions directly onto a multi-track timeline.
Creator-First Export: Unlocked 4K exports with zero watermarks.
TECHNICAL CHALLENGES
Designing a smooth mobile editor required solving some major technical hurdles:
Timeline Performance: Managing heavy video preview rendering alongside real-time audio waveforms without dropping frame rates on mobile hardware.
Backend Security: Structuring API calls for ElevenLabs voice generation on a secure backend so keys remain safe while users get instant text-to-speech rendering without updating client packages.
UI/UX Refinement: Redesigning default system notifications into custom floating dark overlays so the workspace feels unified.
WHAT'S NEXT
I'm currently opening the app for closed testing and early feedback from real creators. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the workflow: What is your biggest pet peeve with current mobile video editors, and what feature do you wish existed on Android?
