What’s in the Mirrorwood?
The Mirrorwood is the last area in the Crimson Forest, assuming you’re tackling main quest objectives. While you’re there, be sure to gather the Memory Flowers of Inanis and Bai Chilian.
As for the Phantom Blade Zero Mirrorwood maze or puzzle, it takes place in a small area surrounded by a copse of trees:
- There are three mirror portals at the left, middle, and right-hand sides.
- Likewise, there are several Puppet Children frolicking around, though they won’t attack you. However, you need to watch out for annoying Crows that love to peck and scratch Soul.
Step into a strange area after tagging the bell near one of Inanis' Memory Flowers.
Mirrorwood maze/puzzle solution
What makes the Mirrorwood maze somewhat confusing is that it’s based on audio cues. If you check the trees, you’ll see this engraved message: “Follow the sound of weeping.”
With this in mind, turn up the volume of your TV and walk closer to each mirror portal. Listen closely and, if you hear a woman crying or sobbing, it means it’s the correct one. Go through that portal to reach another area, whereupon you have to listen for the weeping sound once more.
In any case, here’s the solution:
- First sequence: Left -> Middle -> Right.
- Second sequence: Right -> Left -> Middle.
Pass through portals where someone is weeping (left) until you're able to reach the exit (right).
What happens after you get past the maze?
If you did it right for each sequence, the mists should part. Then, after the second sequence, the way forward should be clear. You’ll see another bell that you can tag and, beyond that, there’s a boss battle waiting for you.
That about does it for our guide on how to solve the Phantom Blade Zero Mirrorwood maze puzzle, but we’d like to share a couple of important tidbits:
- As mentioned earlier, you should collect the Inanis and Bai Chilian Memory Flower sets. Doing so makes the upcoming boss fight more spectacular, and you’ll soon find out why.
- Much later in the campaign--at least if you’re tackling the Triple Threat/Three-Eyed Puppet quest--you’ll return to the Mirrorwood. Here’s the kicker: The whole area is covered in snow and there are new enemies and bosses to face!
