The tournament features 16 teams from North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa, made up of each nation’s best players. As always, the United States enters the tournament as a favorite with a stacked roster including Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, Paige Bueckers, A’ja Wilson, and Kelsey Plum. The U.S. has won four consecutive FIBA World Cup titles and 11 in total.
The U.S. is one of just four teams with FIBA Women’s World Cup titles in the tournament’s 73-year history, alongside the Soviet Union, Brazil, and Australia. Russia remains banned from the tournament, and Brazil didn’t make the cut, but Australia is back and looking strong.
Behind the U.S., France — who have never won a medal — is the odds-on favorite to win in Berlin. Behind them are Belgium, Australia, Spain, and China.
