Hi everyone! Looking for some advice on how to make the most of our somewhat awkward kitchen layout.
I’ve attached photos of the existing kitchen, along with an IKEA Kitchen Planner layout where I’ve basically expanded the kitchen into the adjacent breakfast nook.
We don’t really use the breakfast nook for its intended purpose, so we’re thinking of taking over that entire space and making the kitchen larger. I’d rather use the space for cabinetry and storage than have a separate breakfast area that we don’t really need.
The main goal is to maximize storage and make the kitchen feel as large and high-end as possible. I’d love to have a ton of cabinetry, drawers, and pantry storage while still keeping it functional and not making the space feel overly cramped.
The tricky part is that we can’t knock down the surrounding walls, and the existing kitchen is too narrow for a traditional island. So instead of trying to force an island into the space, I’m thinking of going with a more fully built-out kitchen along the walls and making it feel more like a custom/luxury kitchen that way.
The IKEA layout I attached is my first attempt at figuring out how to use the extra space, but I’m definitely not attached to it. I’d love to hear what you would do differently.
Would you change the cabinet layout? Move the appliances around? Add more tall cabinets or pantry storage? Do something different with the former breakfast nook? Is there any way to incorporate a peninsula without making the space feel too narrow?
