This Redditor posted this on a subreddit that's all about despising HOAs and all the drama that puts us through; like, life wasn't already hard enough to have to worry about people doing crazy financial stuff in a random association on top of it. I thought the problems stopped when you owned a house, but it seems that they follow every group of people.
It is very hard to trust people with money in general, that's precisely why accountants like OP even exist. If it were for me, and I were in a situation just like hers, I would call this out.
Trust me, I'm a big believer in choosing one's battles, but this would definitely be one that I would choose.
In the end it's about money, and money that wasn't spent on what it was supposed to be spent on. Plus, if he is being this shady about it, how can the association trust him in the future? You'd never know what he's capable of doing. Everything should be as transparent as possible.
Does the drama from HOAs ever stop? What would you do if you were in a situation like hers?
