A new book by former Department of State Services (DSS) operative Dennis Amachree, MON, titled DSS at 40: My Journey Behind the Shield, has reignited public interest in the circumstances surrounding the death of former Nigerian Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
In Chapter 17 of the book, Amachree claims that Abacha died while engaged in intimacy with a woman, contrary to longstanding rumours suggesting his death resulted from voodoo-related complications.
According to Amachree, he personally interviewed the woman involved in the incident at around 4:05 a.m. on the day it occurred.
He recounted that her first statement to him was, “I did not kill him, he died on top of me…. Beware of sweet things. Dem dey kill.”
Multiple reports citing the book, which surfaced in July 2026, indicate that the woman, a pharmacist, made the same claim regarding Abacha suffering a cardiac arrest during the encounter at Aso Rock.
The revelation forms part of Amachree’s broader account of his decades-long career within Nigeria’s secret police, offering fresh insight into one of the most talked-about mysteries in the country’s political history.
