I was idly flicking through the TV channels (I think I had given up on Wales getting a draw with Denmark) when I came across this nature programme. My instincts are to move away from nature programmes but I arrived in this one just as a mysterious creature was heading into the French village by night and I was curious to know what it might be – it was a Stone Marten. The Stone Marten found its way to a hen coop whose door had not been shut (we were told) and, despite of my thought that, or perhaps because, it seemed rather unlikely that a camera would be so well-stationed by accident, I watched on. The hens were interesting but I’ll let you view the programme to find out for yourself.

I did check back with the football once or twice (but Wales have so many off days in team sports on grass now) but this programme gripped me because it was charming and different. I see that this was first broadcast at Christmas 2016 but I didn’t see it then and I’m glad that it was repeated now. We encounter Red Squirrels, Hornets, Toads, Wild Boar and a truffle pig amongst others.

Quite a lot of cleverness has gone into making it but I liked it. And, two of my grandchildren (aged nearly three and five and a half) loved it. They sat there with their mouths open. I knew that there were some moments of jeopardy but no gory bits before showing it to them (as true life predation doesn’t go down too well with them at the moment).

If an impoverished BBC finds the best of decades of programmes to repeat then that will be fine by me.
