My understanding is whilst the logic is implicit rather than direct in the rules: The goal in chess is to capture the opponents king. When a check is given, you are obliged to prevent the king being taken on the next move or you would theoretically lose your king and therefore the game. When you deliver a checkmate it means the opponent's king will be taken on the next move regardless of their next turn and therefore you have won absolutely. Surely the implicit logic that when your king is captured you lose the game should apply if you're in a stalemate position? If your next move forces you to lose your king, you're still obliged to make said turn - meaning you lose the game. Just because it's a zuzgwang scenario it doesn't mean it should be forced as a draw? It's not only a completely unequal 'drawing' position but seems to go against the logic of the chess rules
