This is ancient knowledge at this point. A fact so inarguable that no one even tries to argue it anymore. Cats adopt their humans, not the other way around. If you are a cat owner, then you know this. Cats find us everywhere and everywhere. We can be on a walk when we get adopted, just going through our day-to-day lives when a cat waltzes into it and changes everything. We could get adopted while getting coffee, right there, in that Starbucks line. We could have a cat walk straight into our home, just like that, and refuse to leave. Even if you are someone who walked into a shelter and got your cat there, you know that as you were walking around and "choosing", you felt a special sort of connection with one cat - only one - and that is the cat that you went home with.
We call this phenomenon the CDS - when a meowgical system distributes the right cat to the right human. Whether you will be adopted or not does not depend on you, and the couple in today's story knew that. That's the thing. This is knowledge that common people, who do not spend all day on cat internet, don't know. So, when these people get adopted by a cat out of nowhere, they are surprised, shocked, telling their story to everyone as if it's something that has never happened to anyone else. But we know. We are aware that a new cat will be given to us solely when we are deemed worthy by the CDS. The couple in this story were one of us. They knew that all they had to do was to put their desire for a cat out into the universe. Once that was done, the CDS would do the rest. They agreed that they would only adopt a cat if that cat came to them, that they would not go looking. And just like that, a single day after making their request, the CDS sent the cutest kitten their way.
