Human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu has raised alarm over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the body as the “major threat” to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

In a post on her verified X handle on Thursday, Yesufu cautioned that INEC’s plan to deploy artificial intelligence for result collation could undermine the credibility of the polls.

“INEC is the threat to the 2027 election. When INEC takes seriously the independence in the ‘I’ in their acronym, free, fair and credible election will be a done deal,” she wrote.

She further warned that AI-generated content and manipulated information pose growing risks to electoral integrity, stressing that Nigerians must remain vigilant as the country prepares for the polls.

Her remarks come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, with debates intensifying over the role of technology in Nigeria’s democratic process.
