Greetings,
I help improvers understand this game better to the best of my prowess and today I had an introductory call with certain someone interested in lessons, who reached out to me earlier this week over chess.com .
I was in the middle of sharing my background : my journey with the game, the mentors who shaped me as a person and as a player, and my achievements as both a player and a coach. Partway through, he suddenly left the call, and by the time I checked, he’d blocked me on every platform we’d used (we were communicating via discord, and chess.com (wherein the initiatory texts happened). There was no disagreement or awkward moment tbh, and nothing I said was out of line for an intro call, so I suspect he decided he didn’t want to continue once he realised I’m of Indian origin. The timing and the full block across platforms felt deliberate and it felt as if someone who hates the diaspora in particular would do this as I was super nice to him throughout. I’m not looking to name or shame anyone as it'd be totally ridiculous, just to vent a little and hear from others what y'all think on this one, has anyone who teaches or freelances online had something like this happen, and how do you tell the difference between bias and plain rudeness?
Chess is supposed to be one of the most global communities out there, so this stung more than I expected. Would appreciate hearing your experiences on this one.
Just one of the days when it sucks to be an aspie a lil more than usual. Thanks for reading all that and have an amazing day you people, I apologize if I said anything wrong or unacceptable here.
