Woven is a temporary architectural pavilion by Atelier DARN that explores cycles of transformation, decay, and regeneration through a structure made entirely from nature-based materials.
Located in Les Gavarres landscape, in Girona, Spain, the pavilion combines wood with a biodegradable filament made from miscanthus to 3D print around 700 modular pieces. The components interlock into a woven structure that rises from the forest floor toward the surrounding trees, with no glue, rope, or synthetic materials used in the assembly.

pavilion’s cross-shaped module system grows and decomposes
For the structure, Atelier DARN’s design team draws on the growth of climbing plants and vines, relying on the surrounding vegetation and landscape for support. As vegetation gradually covers the pavilion, the structure is intended to blend into its surroundings before weathering and decomposing. Architecture is treated as a changing process that can eventually become part of the landscape.
The individual modules reference Catalan architecture through their cross-shaped section, inspired by the columns of the Barcelona Pavilion. The four-directional geometry allows the pieces to connect and extend into the larger woven structure.
