The iPhone Duo started shipping last Friday, but its release hasn’t been off to a great start. A large number of enthusiasts who paid a pretty price for the pretty new foldable found its inner screen breaking with minimal use. The damage has been so widespread — and maybe even worse was the damage to Apple’s image — that the fruit company had to publicly acknowledge the issue and confirm free replacements for anyone whose iPhone Duo broke so soon.
Independent teardowns by JerryRigEverything and iFixit also confirm the screen’s poor durability, especially around the central part of the hinge. The most common image we’ve seen is a black line running from the top or bottom edge to the middle of the folding screen, with another line, often colored and thicker, forming a right angle to it.
