Losing a cat is hard enough, but losing a cat who has been by your side for 19 years is a whole different kind of heartbreak. That's almost two decades of love, memories, routines, and all the little things that become such a big part of our lives without us even realizing it. And when you lose them, you're not just losing a pet. You're losing a family member, a little companion who's been there through so many different chapters of your life. I think that's one of the hardest things about loving cats so much. We know, unfortunately, that our time with them is limited, but knowing that doesn't make saying goodbye any easier. And after a loss like that, the thought of opening your heart to another cat can feel almost impossible.
I also think there's something very special about the way some people feel connected to the cats they've lost. Maybe it's a little sign from the universe, maybe it's the CDS working its mysterious ways, or maybe it's simply that the love we have for one cat makes us ready to love another, even when we don't think we are. And no, adopting another adorable cat will never replace the one we lost. It doesn't have to. There could be room for more than one little love in our hearts, even if it takes us some time to realize it. Sometimes, the CDS knows when we're ready, even before we do.
