The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and easterlies are expected to bring rain across the country, posing risks of flooding and landslides, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday.
Areas in Luzon, including the Bicol Region, MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), and Quezon, as well as parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, are likely to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ, PAGASA said in its 4:00 p.m. advisory.
Meanwhile, Aurora, Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon are expected to experience similar weather conditions due to the easterlies.
PAGASA warned of possible flooding and landslides in areas affected by the ITCZ and easterlies.
Rain is also expected in Batanes and the Babuyan Islands due to the northeasterly wind flow, although no significant impact is expected.
PAGASA is also monitoring Severe Tropical Storm Champi, which is located 2,930 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 125 kph.
The tropical cyclone is currently not affecting any part of the country as of the forecast period. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
