James Bond is returning to fans sooner than expected. A new comic series featuring 007 is reportedly on the way, ahead of the highly anticipated movie.
Ian Fleming Publications Ltd has partnered with IDW Publishing to create a new comic book series centering on James Bond. Renowned comic writer Grant Morrison, best known for their works in DC Comics, including Arkham Asylum, Superman, and Green Lantern, has been tapped to scribe the upcoming 007 comic series.
The news comes as fans await the official casting for the next James Bond movie. Popular rumors suggest that Slow Horses’ Jack Lowden could succeed Daniel Craig as the next 007. The iconic MI6 spy, who made his debut in Fleming’s 1953 novel Casino Royale, is set to continue the rich legacy in a new avatar. Morrison has already given fans a taste of what to expect from his comic adaptation.
Grant Morrison teases a darker, more unpredictable take on James BondIn an official statement, Morrison discussed Sunbreaker, the six-part opening adventure of their upcoming James Bond comic.
“I’ve been a James Bond fan for as long as I can remember, and this opportunity to put my own stamp on a British character as iconic as King Arthur, Robin Hood or Sherlock Holmes was too good to miss,” Morrison began. “Our opening 6-part adventure, Sunbreaker, attempts to create a definitive Bond story featuring everything fans love about the character and his world, while adding a whole lot more.”
Morrison added, “Expect to see James Bond in a few unfamiliar situations, facing unfamiliar foes, in a world very like our own as reflected in a deadly funhouse mirror – a world of intrigue, violence, double cross and deception. A world through which James Bond glides like a killer shark among minnows. Charismatic, ruthless, unstoppable.”
Additionally, Morrison shared that their new Bond comic will see 007 with new gadgets and cars. The MI6 spy is about to face “a terrifying new ultimate villain” in the upcoming series.
The official title of the comic series and its release date remain under wraps for now.
