The next James Bond film just took another step toward becoming a reality, following a major update from its writer. Denis Villeneuve is directing the upcoming 007 film, as the search for the next British spy continues. It is being written by Steven Knight, who previously wrote Peaky Blinders, Spencer, and more.
While speaking to Zoe Ball on the U.K.’s Greatest Hits Radio (via Variety), Knight provided a promising update on his James Bond script. When asked whether he had finished a draft of the screenplay, he said, “I’m nodding silently.”
With that, Knight has confirmed that at least a draft of the script has been completed, bringing the production start date for the upcoming feature closer.
Who are some of the actors rumored to be playing James Bond?Ever since Amazon MGM Studios announced its search for the next Bond, several contenders have been rumored for the role. Over the last few months, several talented actors, including Callum Turner, Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi, Jack O’Connell, Jack Lowden, and Paul Mescal, have been highlighted in various reports.
However, a recent update revealed that most of these Bond casting reports may have been untrue. According to industry insider Matthew Belloni, Amazon only recently started sending test deals to actors. Then again, comments from Gary Oldman and Knight’s response to them suggest that the next Bond may already have been cast.
Most recently, a recovered letter from Bond author Ian Fleming detailed how he wanted the ideal 007 agent to look. The next actor to take on the role will be the ninth person to portray the iconic character.
It remains to be seen which actor will take on the mantle of James Bond. The film currently does not have an official release date. Further details remain scarce, though Villeneuve has confirmed it will be his next project following Dune: Part 3, which is scheduled for release this year.
