The Dallas Cowboys are 1-2 following Sunday’s heartbreaking 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Brazil, a game that included several questionable decisions by America’s Team down the stretch.

Owner Jerry Jones addressed the end-of-game sequencing Tuesday during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan.

‘No explanation’ suffices, Jones says

After using their final timeout following quarterback Dak Prescott’s second-down scramble to the 5-yard line with 14 seconds left, the Cowboys called for a pass to wide receiver George Pickens on third down. Even though Pickens got open on the play, Prescott proceeded to throw the ball away, which head coach Brian Schottenheimer said postgame was the correct decision.

Dallas proceeded to tie the game on Brandon Aubrey’s chip shot field goal with seven seconds left, but Aubrey’s ensuing kickoff was a touchback, giving the Ravens time to complete a long pass and get in position for Tyler Loup’s game-winner as time expired.

“There’s no explanation that you’re satisfied with,” Jones said Tuesday about how everything unfolded. “None. Let’s be sure that we all understand that. They don’t have one that they’re satisfied with. We made mistakes during that time, there’s no question about it. There’s no explanation. There’s an evaluation of how to not make the same mistakes again, which is what you should be doing. We can’t get that back. No way to get it back. What you can do is use it — if there’s any aspect of it that you want to just not even think happened. Any aspect of it, use it to get better.”

Prescott also addressed his final throw

After the game Sunday, Prescott expressed disappointment with his team’s inability to put the ball in the end zone, admitting that he didn’t expect Pickens to be open on the play but still should have been able to get him the ball.

“The coverage they were playing 99 times out of 100, they are supposed to cover GP [outside],” Prescott said. They’re supposed to have outside leverage and funnel inside. GP did a great job of winning regardless.”

As for what his head coach told him in regards to throwing the ball away, Prescott said he didn’t want to get into that “right now” because he was “still fresh, just upset” about the loss.
