It was a race to remember. On this third leg, held at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC), the competitive MCP Miata Cup and the MSCC Miata Spec Series continued their respective tournaments.

It is certainly a sight to behold, as humble two-seaters with 2.0-liter engines are pushed to their absolute limit—while also testing the drive and confidence of the one behind the wheel. In those moments, spectators and drivers alike get to witness the spirit of Jinba Ittai. In the world of Mazda, it translates to “the horse and rider as one,” or in this case, Miatas and their masters.

Seeing an MX-5 cut through a sharp corner and push through a straight is an inspiring view, and arguably an even more surreal experience if you’re in the driver’s seat. This level of motorsport is where Mazda’s storied history and engineering prowess come alive. It’s one thing to make beautiful roadsters, but to make them good race cars as well reveals the depth of Mazda’s automotive knowledge.

Best of all, two separate races were scheduled to take place throughout the day. It extended the excitement, but also gave drivers a chance to listen and adjust to what their Miata needs. While watching, you will see the amazing talent that uses each of the 181 horses under the hoods of their MX-5s.

The races saw aggressive overtaking and graceful pushes into winning spots. The BRC is a scary playground, and drivers were quite challenged by the track. Conquering this classic southern race track requires flawless synergy between the driver and his ride. At the end of the day, #34 Angelo Magtoto took first place in Class A. Meanwhile, #90 Luis Azcona captured the top podium step in Class B for Race 3, while #97 Javier Toledo was the winner in Race 4 for the same class. 

This experience, however, is not exclusive to the racers. Jinba Ittai is the guiding principle behind every Mazda vehicle, from the compact 2 to the seven-seater CX-90. In fact, part of the race day includes track experiences that allow all owners to take their beloved Mazda onto the circuit to experience it uninterrupted. There’s nothing quite like seeing a CX-Series crossover take turns at gravity-defying speeds, we tell you.

While potholes and other errant drivers can disrupt the bond between man and machine, events like the Mazda track days offer a retreat from urban driving and a reminder of the bond between man and roadster. Mazda Philippines knows that relationship is what makes the ownership experience much more special.

Throughout the races and track experiences, the sense of community lives on in car clubs and amongst enthusiasts. It crosses generations, powertrains, and other signs of the times, as all participants share a collective grin while checking out a vintage MX-5 or a brand-new CX-5 HEV.

As nameplates, engines, and now batteries and motors evolve, Jinba Ittai will remain at the core of the brand—and with that, a dedication to keep man and Mazda connected.
