Kevin Ashe won his second consecutive election in the Pickering mayor’s race on Monday night.

Ashe won 36.9% of the popular vote with 11,254 votes counted. He was first elected to the position in the 2022 election with 7,867 votes.

Lisa Robinson was second with 7,109 and Janice Frampton was third with 4,280 votes.

Robinson was a controversial figure at city council . She was investigated nine times by the city’s integrity commissioner since 2023, and she had her pay suspended multiple times. Eventually, she took the city to court to recover her lost wages. An Ontario court upheld the integrity commissioner’s findings and the city’s decisions to suspend her pay.

During this campaign for mayor, Ashe ran on a multi-phased platform to reduce taxes, curb the affordability issue, support seniors, and create local jobs.

Of note, Ashe’s father, George, was Pickering’s first mayor in 1973. He served the office of mayor until 1977.

Whitby

With 63 of 63 polls reported, Elizabeth Roy won her second term as mayor in Whitby.

Roy earned another four years, receiving 19,177 votes, more than 4,000 votes more than in 2022.

Some of Roy’s priorities include building an affordable and safe community for all residents.

Roy was elected to the mayor’s chair in 2022 with 15,429 votes.

Her main opponent was former councillor Chris Leahy. Leahy claimed 16,122 votes, while Harshini Rajmohan was third with 1,674 votes.

Earlier this year, Roy survived two Ontario Human Rights Commission investigations. Steve Yamada filed his complaint against the mayor, two councillors, the town and the town’s integrity commissioner last December. Leahy’s complaint in January involved the same five entities. Both cases were dismissed on Sept. 28.

In total, 37,267 people voted in Whitby for a voter turnout of 31.2%.

Oshawa

Longtime city councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri was crowned the mayor of Oshawa on Monday night.

The Ward 2 regional and city councillor earned 15,400 votes. In total, 40,718 people turned out to vote.

Marimpietri ran on a varied and multi-platformed campaign, talking about creating jobs and attracting outside investment into Oshawa’s assets, including its air and seaports, health care network and post-secondary institutions.

Marimpietri was first elected to city council in 2003, when he was 23 years old.

At the insistence of residents in Oshawa, Jim Lee ran for mayor. Lee finished second with 8,939 votes and Dennis Giberson was third with 6.656 votes.

Dan Carter announced earlier this year that he would not be seeking a third term as mayor.
