IndiaAIFounders — Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari F40 is the barn find of a lifetime

Lewis Hamilton loves the Ferrari F40—who doesn’t? Every time the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion has had the opportunity to make an appearance in one, he’s taken it. Look no further than his debut shoot with Ferrari and his latest appearance at Daikoku.

And now, Hamilton can proudly call himself the owner of an F40. The Ferrari driver shared that he recently discovered an abandoned example of the ’80s icon, and Maranello has been hard at work restoring it. Hamilton shared on social media: “These cars are works of art and incredibly rare, so when I found this one, covered in dust after being sat in a garage for over thirty years, I knew I had to bring her home.”

It’s a fairy tale barn find, surely. Not everyone can say they’ve dug up the supercar of their dreams, and immediately have it brought to the manufacturer to rebuild it to mint condition—but that’s exactly the story with Hamilton’s F40. Being a Formula 1 driver for one of the most prestigious marques in history sure has its perks.

The photos Hamilton posted on social media show the car in an early state of restoration, still dusty after years of being shelved. There are also pictures of the car being taken apart by Ferrari’s master mechanics and engineers to assess the work that needs to be done. It’s definitely an intimate look at what’s most likely a passion project for both Hamilton and Ferrari.

Unfortunately, Hamilton didn’t share photos of his F40 in its fully restored state, instead ending his post with a cheeky “Stay tuned...” teaser. That, we will most certainly be doing. Coincidentally, 2027 also marks 40 years of the Ferrari F40. Who knows what Maranello’s cooking up to celebrate the occasion?
