A lost dog in Florida knew just where to go, finding his way to a police station in Tampa.
In surveillance footage shared by the Tampa Police Department on Facebook last week, the German shepherd is seen outside the police station.
Once an officer inside spots the wayward canine, he opens the front door, and the dog walks into the station.
The clip then cuts to bodycam footage showing an officer outside the dog owner’s home, where he greets her and asks how she’s doing.
“Not so good. I lost my dog,” the woman says, sounding dejected.
“I have him,” the cop replies.
“You have him. Really?” the woman says in disbelief, adding, “I was crying this morning.”
Microchip helped cops locate owner
He then explains that he took her dog to the veterinarian, who checked the canine’s microchip for information about his owner, which led him to her house.
The grateful owner tears up while repeatedly thanking the cop.
Leading her to the back of his cruiser, the officer opens the vehicle’s door where the owner immediately embraces her dog and leads him back inside her home.
Joking that the pup was an “unexpected K-9 applicant,” police said the incident happened on Sept. 30 at its District Two office.
“This four-legged visitor was ready to join the team, but unfortunately, our K-9 roster is currently full. We made sure our hopeful recruit was safely reunited with his owner instead,” it said.
“He may not have gotten the job, but he definitely stole our hearts.”
