This replica of a Mercedes-Benz 300SL was built utilizing fiberglass bodywork mounted over a tubular steel chassis, and it is powered by a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 paired with a T56 six-speed manual transmission. The build is said to have been completed by House of Hotrods in Mansfield, Texas, and was previously sold on BaT in December 2021. Finished in silver over red, the car is equipped with gullwing doors, chrome bumpers, and a dual exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers. It rides on 17″ wheels with adjustable coilovers and front disc brakes. Inside, the cabin houses fiberglass-shelled bucket seats, air conditioning, power windows, and a Retrosound stereo. This 300SL replica was acquired by the current owner in 2024 and is now being offered on dealer consignment with a Texas title, listing it as a 2014 ASVE.
The fiberglass body features vertically-opening gullwing doors as well as a Mercedes Benz-style front grille and emblems. Other details include a bullet-style fender mirror, chrome bumpers, and simulated roof vents.
Chrome 17″ wheels wear Mercedes-Benz tri-star hubcaps and Falken FK452 tires showing date codes from 2014. The independent suspension and brakes are reportedly from a C4 Corvette, and the car features AFCO adjustable coilovers, front disc brakes, Wilwood brake hydraulics, and a Flaming River steering rack.
The cabin is trimmed in red upholstery over custom fiberglass-shelled bucket seats, and darker loop carpets line the floors and sills. Remote hood and trunk releases are mounted in the cockpit, and amenities include an Old Air Products HVAC system as well as a RetroSound stereo, which is wired to speakers in the door jambs as well as in the custom rear box that is trimmed to resemble a suitcase.
The billet aluminum steering wheel is mounted on an Ididit tilt column and frames Classic Instruments gauges, including an 8k-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and a six-digit mechanical odometer that shows 800 miles, only a handful of which were added by current owner.
The fuel-injected 5.7-liter Chevrolet LS1 V8 is said to run on a re-flashed ECU and is cooled by an aluminum radiator with an electric fan. The engine also features a custom intake and exposed coil packs as well as dual 2.5″ exhaust pipes exiting through Magnaflow mufflers.
A Borg-Warner T56 six-speed manual transmission directs power to the rear wheels via a Dana 44 differential.
The car is titled as a 2014 ASVE using the Texas Reassigned Vehicle Identification number shown above. The Texas title lists “Actual Mileage” and “Replica: 1956 Merz” under the remarks section.
