In-depth details on the larger, more powerful BYD Seagull previewed in July are still in the shadows, but at least now it has a name. Meet the BYD Great Seagull, the Chinese carmaker’s upcoming answer to the Geely EX2 and the GAC Aion UT. And according to the brand’s sales division general manager Zhang Zhuo, in a report by CarNewsChina.com, the hatchback is confirmed to launch in China this year.
Within the brand’s lineup, the Great Seagull will be positioned between the Seagull and the Dolphin. Measuring 4,205mm long, 1,810mm wide, and 1,570mm tall, with a 2,650mm wheelbase, the hatchback still sits within the B-segment but definitely leans toward the bigger end of the scale.

As for the powertrain, expect the Great Seagull to utilize a single electric motor delivering 127hp. This can be paired with a 30kWh or 39.2kWh battery that gets up to 320km or 420km of range, respectively. Top speed maxes out at 150kph.

Though initial photos of the Great Seagull from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology didn’t appear to show a LiDAR sensor, the car might include a roof-mounted one if spy shots around the internet are anything to go by. This means that the Great Seagull could get God’s Eye B, the manufacturer’s mid-tier smart driving and safety system.
