Leeds United have confirmed a fifth new arrival of the summer, with experienced goalkeeper Michael Zetterer joining the club with a few days remaining of the transfer window.
The 31-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Whites and arrives from German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sitting down to chat with LUTV after signing his contract, the stopper gave his thoughts on taking on this new challenge.
“I feel very happy to be here now,” Zetterer began. “Leeds showed me everything. It was good conversations with everybody, so I'm very happy.
“I've heard a lot [about Leeds United]. Of course, I played also in Frankfurt with a player who plays here before, he told me a lot of things, what happens here, what makes the club special. So I came here with a little bit of knowledge.
“They told me the city, the area around, is fully into the club. So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing this.
“A lot of German players are here right now, so this is, of course, very easy then for me. I know Ilia [Gruev] from a former club, so I'm looking forward to getting to know the group, to know each other, and then we will work very hard I hope.”
With attention quickly turning to matters on the pitch, the German hopes to bring his experience from the top level to the team, having played in both the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League.
“The Premier League, in my opinion, is the best league in the world. Competition is so high. That's what I love. So yeah, of course, it was always a dream to come to the Premier League,” our new signing explained.
“The clubs are very big. The quality of players is crazy, it's so good. So yeah, I'm just happy to join a club in the Premier League.
“It was also a tough season for the club [at Frankfurt last season, Michael’s previous side]. But of course, the personal experience I made was amazing.
“To play Champions League, to play against big teams, yeah, was amazing. It was also a dream to do this, so last year this dream came true.”
And finally, with the arrival of James Trafford as well this summer, Zetterer is hoping the full goalkeeper’s union at the club can help each other to keep improving.
“I'm very happy also to work with him [Trafford]. I think he's also a big signing for the club, he has big potential to be maybe England's number one.
“And yeah, I will help him with everything I can. I hope we all just keep pushing each other to get better and then to achieve good things for the club.”
