rewatching midnight mass currently and i just think even though the vampire theme is so over saturated these days… pairing it with religion and the vampire/angel dynamic is super clever and original. and it’s never been done that i know of at least not executed to such a high level.

watching father paul delude himself into actually believing the vampire was an angel, to the point of sucking blood out of another mans fatal head injury was among the best scenes of the show.

i personally think it’s Mike Flanagan’s best work. the third act was a little anticlimactic however and my only criticism of the show.

as an aside, i’m finding it more and more common the third act being underwhelming among the horror, thriller, and mystery genres these days.

but it’s actually super believable that an isolated fishing community would take in father paul, cover up his numerous crimes, and believe they were in the presence of a legit prophet after all the miraculous changes the vampires blood brings to the community.
