Minister slams Maryam over terrorism remarks
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Science and Information Technology Shafi Jan has strongly reacted to remarks made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz regarding terrorism, describing her statement on such a serious and sensitive national issue as irresponsible, regrettable and condemnable.
The provincial information minister said that exploiting the sensitive issue of terrorism for political gains had long been a practice of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
"Terrorism is not the problem or war of any single province or region; it is a battle being fought by the entire nation," Shafi Jan said, adding that Maryam Nawaz's remarks appeared aimed at creating hatred and mistrust among the provinces. He said K-P had played the role of a frontline province in the war against terrorism, while its police force and people had rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the restoration and maintenance of peace.
"Describing the very province that has made some of the greatest sacrifices in the fight against terrorism as a threat reflects an extremely regrettable mindset," he said.
Shafi Jan stressed that the country needed national unity to effectively confront terrorism, but alleged that Maryam Nawaz was attempting to turn the sensitive national issue into a matter of provincial politics.
