This 1969 Volkswagen Type 2 bus was refurbished and modified under previous ownership, with work that involved installing lowered suspension components, retrofitting front disc brakes with Wilwood calipers, and repainting the body in red and black with silver graphics as well as fitting the air-cooled 1.6L flat-four with an EMPI dual carburetor kit, MSD ignition components, and a custom-built exhaust system. The van rides on black-finished 17″ five-spoke wheels with red rim stripes, and additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transaxle, a black canvas sunroof, a chrome grille and bumpers, aftermarket headlight and taillight assemblies, replacement red vinyl upholstery, individual front seats, a center console, an L-shaped rear bench, a SCAT VW shifter, and Sony and Kicker speakers linked to an Alpine CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity. This Type 2 is offered at no reserve with an Illinois title.
The bus was repainted in red and black with silver graphics as part of the build. Features include a black canvas sunroof, a chrome grille and bumpers, teardrop-style taillights with tinted lenses, and dual mirrors.
Black-finished 17″ five-spoke wheels with red rim stripes are wrapped in Capitol Sport UHP tires. The van rides on a lowered suspension, and disc brakes with red-finished Wilwood calipers have been retrofitted up front.
Red vinyl upholstery covers the individual front seats as well as the L-shaped rear bench, and the black headliner has red welting. Additional features include an aftermarket center console, a SCAT VW shifter, and crank windows. An Alpine CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity is linked to Sony and Kicker speakers as well as a pair of Kicker subwoofers in the cargo area.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a VDO 90-mph speedometer and a fuel level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 79k miles, approximately 25 of which were added under current ownership.
The air-cooled 1.6L flat-four is equipped with an EMPI dual carburetor kit, a degree pulley, and an MSD ignition coil, distributor, and spark plug wires. The selling dealer tells us that the wiring was updated and repaired in 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The van is equipped with a custom-built exhaust system.
