Should family be responsible for managing your finances?

Most people would like to think that they can rely on their relatives to support them when they are going through a hard time, and often, that will include when they have budgeting concerns. If they have the means and they care about their loved one, it makes sense that family members may give away some money from time to time.

That being said, everybody has limits to their generosity. Just because somebody is family doesn't mean that they get to have unlimited access to somebody's time and resources whenever they happen to need them. It is important to respect those limits, even if they are not explicitly stated. There comes a time when everybody has to take responsibility and ownership of their issues instead of expecting them to be fixed by their loved ones. It can be a tough lesson to learn, but there can be even more uncomfortable consequences when this lesson is ignored. This is exactly the kind of issue that ruptures valuable relationships. There is only so much entitled behavior that most people are willing to put up with, even if it comes from somebody that they care about.
