Monster Hunter Rise has surpassed 20 million copies sold worldwide, more than five years after launching on Nintendo Switch in March 2021. Capcom’s official Monster Hunter franchise account announced the milestone on Friday, October 2, according to Anime News Network’s October 6 report.

That is a substantial sales run for a game that began on a single platform. Rise’s release eventually reached PC, PlayStation and Xbox, giving its hunt a much wider address than it had at launch.

Rise’s long road across platforms

After its Switch debut, Rise launched on PC via Steam in January 2022. Capcom brought it to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows in January 2023, alongside availability through Xbox Game Pass.

The Sunbreak expansion followed a similar staggered rollout. It debuted on Switch and Steam in June 2022, then arrived on PlayStation, Xbox, Windows and Xbox Game Pass in April 2023. Those dates mark the game’s steadily expanding footprint; they do not, by themselves, establish what drove its sales milestone.

The latest mainline entry, Monster Hunter Wilds, launched globally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam in February 2025. It sold more than 8 million copies in its first three days, which Capcom described as the fastest one of its games had reached that mark. By March 2025, Wilds had sold 10 million copies worldwide.

Wilds is also scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, with its Ascendance expansion planned for 2027. Those releases give the franchise fresh business on the horizon, but Rise’s 20-million milestone is its own story: a 2021 release continuing to reach players across the platforms it picked up after launch.
