Mikayla Matthews just dropped the real reason she’s walking away from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and it all comes down to one person. The Hulu reality star revealed why she refused to continue filming Season 6 after learning about a specific casting decision.

The Hulu reality star shared her reasoning on Instagram Stories one day after announcing her departure, Deadline reported.
“The ONLY reason I’m leaving the show is because I was told a certain person was coming back,” Matthews wrote. She added that she told producers before agreeing to Season 6 that she would not film if Paul returned. Matthews called the situation “UNETHICAL” and stressed that “kids are involved.”
Hulu currently films Season 6 after cutting Season 5 short. Paul’s ex, Dakota Mortensen, faced domestic violence claims during that season. Matthews revealed she first saw the Barstool video in March. She also referenced “other things” that made her question what she had been hearing.
Matthews initially filmed Season 6 because Paul was not participating with the rest of MomTok. However, the situation changed when producers confirmed Paul’s return. “As soon as we were told she was coming back, I said great, then I will not be participating, god bless and goodbye,” she wrote. She confirmed she has not filmed a single day since that decision.
The social media influencer also pushed back against claims that rewatching Season 5 influenced her choice. “If you guys thought, ‘Wow this is hard to watch, incredibly triggering and frustrating,’ imagine having it be your reality everyday,” she wrote.
Matthews clarified she did not give producers an ultimatum. She acknowledged having no “control” over casting decisions. Matthews also confirmed she would fulfill her “contractual obligations and interviews” for previously filmed content.
