Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has made it clear that head coach Fernando Da Cruz has been given one major mandate this season, to bring trophies back to Naturena.
The French coach arrived at Kaizer Chiefs in July and has already made a positive impression among the club’s supporters.
In the Betway Premiership, Da Cruz has guided Amakhosi to third place after the opening rounds, with Chiefs sitting just two points behind league leaders Orlando Pirates. Following the arrival of six new signings, expectations are high that the club can challenge for silverware this season.
Speaking to FARPost, Motaung revealed that Da Cruz’s primary objective is to win trophies and restore the glory days at Chiefs.
“The new coach obviously knows he has to win the league, he has to win cups, he has to bring the glory days back.
“He must enjoy his work with the support that we are giving him with the players and everybody,” Motaung said.
Da Cruz given a mandate at Chiefs
With the transfer window still open, Chiefs could yet add more reinforcements to their squad. Motaung insisted that the club will continue looking for quality players whenever the opportunity arises.
“In football, you never stop thinking of any new signings. In football, you are always looking for the best.
“If you get the best in the market, you get it, and if you can afford it and there is space for them and the coach needs them, we will always support.”
Da Cruz has already seen his first opportunity for silverware disappear after Chiefs were eliminated from the MTN8.
However, the Carling Knockout Cup will provide the Frenchman with another opportunity to end Kaizer Chiefs’ long trophy drought, while the league title remains the ultimate target following Motaung’s clear mandate.
