The Toyota GR Corolla is one serious hot hatch, capable of lapping a circuit or speeding across a mountain pass just as quickly as some much more expensive cars. Just like any other car, however, exploring the limits of one on a public road isn’t a great idea.

Earlier this week, an Instagram biker by the name of gentlecrabcake shared footage capturing the terrifying moment the driver of a white GR Corolla lost control on a canyon road and crashed into a group of motorcyclists. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, but things could have been much worse.

The clip was captured by the rider’s helmet cam as he chased the GR Corolla on his high-powered Aprilia. The driver of the all-wheel-drive hot hatch can be seen taking corners hard, pushing the car to its absolute limits.

While coming around a left-hand bend at around 70 mph, they pushed it a little too hard. As the Toyota approaches the midway part of the corner, the rear end starts to get loose. Rather than staying on the throttle, or slightly backing off, the driver hits the brakes, which only serves to push the car wide and continue the slide.

One of the car’s rear wheels briefly hits a patch of dirt on the side of the road before the driver’s counter-steering measures bring the hatch back in line. Unfortunately, they appear to have overcorrected, and the car plows off the road and directly into a group of bikers who had been resting on the side.

The riders had just enough time to run out of the way before the Toyota slammed into a tree with several of the parked bikes. Thankfully, none of the bikers were hit, and the driver and passenger of the Toyota avoided serious injury.

Obviously, it wasn’t a wise idea for the group of motorcyclists to have stopped at the exit of a turn like this, but in the comments on the original Instagram post, one of them says they had just pulled over to help another biker who had crashed on this same turn. As for the driver of the Toyota, well, hopefully they will use this as a valuable lesson to always drive within their limits.
