Marvelous has confirmed that Muramasa: Revenant Blades, the enhanced edition of Vanillaware’s Muramasa: Rebirth and Muramasa: The Demon Blade, will launch on February 4, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The publisher paired the date reveal with a new gameplay video running nearly ten minutes, giving the clearest look yet at how the refreshed sidescrolling action RPG plays on current hardware, according to the official press release.
An Enhanced Edition Two Decades in the MakingMuramasa: The Demon Blade originally debuted on Nintendo Wii back in 2009, with the PlayStation Vita port Muramasa: Rebirth following in 2013 alongside its Genroku Legends DLC. Revenant Blades folds both into a single package, and notably, it marks the first time a Vanillaware game has landed on PC. That’s a meaningful milestone for a studio whose hand-painted 2D action RPGs – this one sits in similar territory to games like Onimusha: Way of the Sword in its sword-focused combat obsession – have historically stayed locked to consoles.
Six Blades, Six StoriesThe story revolves around a conflict over legendary swords forged by the smith Senji Muramasa. Wielding one grants immense power, but also a madness that can only be sated with blood, and the resulting carnage draws demons and evil spirits across the land.
Six protagonists get caught up in the chaos, and Marvelous says players can tackle their stories in any order they like. The enhanced release adds 4K visuals, a new English voiceover and localization pass, and additional modes on top of the original combat systems – the kind of upgrade that should appeal to anyone who’s been chasing fresh combat-driven action since titles like Vaewolf entered the conversation.
