Shein’s Hong Kong IPO Debut Ends Flat at $26.3 Billion
Shein shares closed flat in its Hong Kong debut on Tuesday, recovering from an early 10% drop. The stock ended at HK$48.50, just under its IPO price of HK$48.56, valuing the company at about $26.3 billion, far below its 2022 peak of nearly $100 billion. The debut reflects investor caution over slowing growth, rising trade costs and regulatory scrutiny, including an FTC investigation and EU platform review. Shein has also lost ground from the end of U.S. and EU duty-free exemptions that once fueled its low-cost shipping model. {Reuters/paywalled}
Ultra Violette Launches First U.S. Sunscreen With New FDA-Approved Filter

Designed for acne-prone skin, the zinc-BEMT formula pairs oil-control and pore-blurring ingredients with a lightweight texture. Priced at $40, it’s available now online and in Sephora stores nationwide starting Oct. 2. A second BEMT-powered sunscreen, Fave Screen, will follow in January 2027. {Fashionista inbox}
Black-Owned Brands Nearly Absent From Target’s New Beauty Studio
Target Beauty Studio, launching Sept. 10 in more than 600 stores, will offer more than 1,600 products from 90 brands, replacing former Ulta shops. However, only two brands, Briogeo and Glamazon Beauty, appear to be Black-owned. Target said the assortment emphasizes global brands and that nearly 40% of founders are “diverse,” without defining the term. The launch comes amid broader criticism of Target’s retreat from DEI commitments, with consultants pointing to the 15 Percent Pledge, adopted by Sephora and Ulta, as a benchmark Target has fallen short of. {Modern Retail}

The beauty division’s Foundation Drops more than doubled the skin-care business, while fashion saw strong demand for tailoring and occasionwear. CEO Sybille Darricarrère Lunel called the milestone a reflection of “disciplined execution,” as the brand continues retail expansion in the U.S. {WWD/paywalled}
