New details have emerged following a fatal single-vehicle crash in Puslinch, Ont., southeast of Guelph, early Saturday morning.
On Sunday morning, Ontario Provincial Police said that two teenage girls remain in hospital with serious injuries following the crash that killed four people.
“The most recent information that we have is that there are life-altering injuries to (a 17-year-old) female, and (a 16-year-old) female has non-life-threatening injuries,” Ontario Provincial Police Insp. Karen Medeiros told reporters on Sunday morning.
The dead include a 19-year-old man from Mississauga, a 19-year-old man from Brampton, a 17-year-old girl from Mississauga and a 15-year-old girl from Milton.
“I want to offer our sincere condolences to all family members and friends affected by this tragedy,” Medeiros said. “ I would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all first responders involved in this tragic case.”
Police are still determining if excessive speed or a lack of available seatbelts played a critical role in this accident.

Determining factors
“I don’t believe that this vehicle had enough seatbelts for the (number) of occupants that were in the vehicle at the time,” Medeiros said. “Currently, it’s under investigation.”
Police did not say whether drugs and alcohol played a factor in the crash, and they did not know where the car was headed at that time of the crash, saying only that “that is still currently under investigation at this time.”
Cops did not say whether the occupants were related, and they didn’t immediately say whether the driver survived or was among the deceased.
The incident happened at about 1:35 a.m., when police and first responders were called to the area of Watson Rd S., north of Wellington Rd. 34 after a vehicle had left the road, struck a guardrail before ending up in a ravine.
Medeiros urged anyone with information or footage to contact Wellington County OPP.
“Four young people have lost their lives in a matter of moments,” she said. “Families have been forever changed and an entire community is searching for answers.”
As of Sunday morning, the intersection remained closed to traffic.
